Six parameters. One pad.
Heart rate, HRV, breathing rate, sleep stages, apnea events and presence, captured every night by a 0.3 mm sensor pad under the mattress. No wearables, no charging, no effort for the person being measured.
MimoSense measures contact-free with ballistocardiography (BCG): a flexible sensor film picks up the recoil of every heartbeat and every breath straight through the mattress.
A multimodal sensor, not just a piezoelectric film
The flexible sensing films on the market, PVDF among them, are piezoelectric only. A piezoelectric film responds to change: it reads vibration, but it cannot hold a static load. Its signal decays as soon as the load stops changing, so occupancy has to be inferred from the vital signal itself.
The MimoSense film is multimodal, the only sensor of its kind on the market. It combines two sensing principles in a single 0.3 mm layer:
- Piezoelectric mode captures the dynamic signal, the micro-recoil of each heartbeat and each breath, at least 10 times more sensitive than PVDF.
- Piezoresistive mode measures static force in parallel, so bed occupancy and load are read on their own independent channel.
Because presence comes from the resistive channel and not from the pulse, it stays correct when the person lies perfectly still, and it does not fail when the vital signal is weak. Running both principles together also cancels the hysteresis and drift that a single-principle film suffers from. Occupancy is measured, not inferred.
One supplier, from the sensor to the app
MimoSense develops every layer of the chain in house in Darmstadt, Germany:
- Sensor films, customizable in size, geometry and sensitivity
- Readout electronics with analog preamplification and 24-bit conversion, in 1-channel and 4-channel versions
- Firmware with BLE for mobile pairing and WiFi for continuous sync
- Signal processing and the vital sign algorithms
- Cloud backend with a REST and WebSocket API
- A finished mobile app, ready to white-label
There is no chain to assemble and no second vendor to align. Partners embed the film in their own product, pull the data stream into their own platform, or take the full white-label stack, and go from a DevKit on the bench to a launched product without building a single layer themselves.
Two ways to integrate
OEM, built in. The film is embedded into the mattress or pillow during production. At 0.3 mm it adds no perceptible thickness and needs no installation step, so monitoring starts on the first night.
Retrofit, standalone. The pad slides between an existing mattress and the slat base or box spring, fits virtually any bed, and is ready in under three minutes.
Both paths deliver the same research-grade signal through the same stack.
Where it is deployed
- Care and ageing at home. Passive heart rate, breathing and sleep quality with night-time anomaly detection, reliable bed-exit detection, and nothing for the resident to wear or charge.
- Infant care. Contactless breathing and movement tracking through the mattress, with no patches and no straps.
- Hotels and wellness. A branded sleep report for guests, with zero setup asked of them.
- Furniture and mattress manufacturers. Presence, posture shifts and vitals captured under any surface material, with no visible hardware added to the product.
